Scene 1

Setting: Kingdom of Fairies, The Flower Fairy’s garden

LIGHTS UP: The Flower Fairy and the Fern Elf enter and move to centerstage as they are talking.

Flower Fairy: Thank you so much for coming today, Fern Elf. You are always so helpful when I must make important decisions.

Fern Elf: You do not need to thank me, Flower Fairy. I am glad to help.

Flower Fairy: Well, it is time to tell him. (Loudly) Princes! Princesses! Please come to the garden. I would like to talk to all of you.

All the princes and princesses enter and sit around in a circle.

All: Good day, Flower Fairy. Good day, Fern Elf.

Princess Sylvia: What is it, Flower Fairy?

Prince Andrew: Hello, Fern Elf, nice to see you again.

Princess Iris: (whispering to William) It must be something serious.

Prince William: (whispering back) I agree. It usually is when Fern Elf comes to visit.

Flower Fairy: Lovely children! I feel like a mother to you all. But, as you know, you are all only on loan to me.

Princess Daphne: Yes, we know our mothers and fathers sent us here as babies for you to care for us and teach us.

Prince Simon: And we are all very happy here, aren’t we?

All: (Enthusiastic Yes, of course etc.)

Princess Cynthia: You are a wonderful teacher!

Prince Thomas: We have learned so much from you.

Princess Melody: And you have been so kind!

Prince Jeffrey: And you have loved us all!

Flower Fairy: Thank you, children. You warm my heart, and I love you all very much, but when you reach your 18th birthday, it is time for you to go back to your parents and serve your kingdom.

Princess Phyllis: Must we really leave the fairy kingdom?

Flower Fairy: I am afraid so, children. That is the rule.

Prince James: Then I am glad I am not 18 yet!

Sylvia and Andrew: Me, too!

Fern Elf: Ah, but you day will be, children!

Flower Fairy: Before I send you on your way, I will give each of you a gift to help you.

Princess Catherine: What kind of gift?

Prince Marcus: Ssh! Be patient! Wait and see.

Flower Fairy: A special gift that will hopefully help you to serve your kingdom and its people well.

Fern Elf: The Flower Fairy invited me here today to help her choose the appropriate gift for Iris and William.

Flower Fairy: After lots of thinking, I give you, Princess Iris, and you, Prince William, the gift of BEAUTY!

Fern Elf: Or in your case, Prince William, we will say HANDSOME.

Iris: Oh, thank you, Flower Fairy!

William: You are so kind!

Flower Fairy: But remember, with such a special gift comes responsibility.

Your gift can be used for good, or it can be used for evil… Choose wisely, my children.

Fern Elf: And now it is time for you to return to your homes.

Flower Fairy: Butterfly chariot, come please!

2 to 4 butterflies enter with a wagon/chariot and stop near the Flower Fairy.

First Butterfly: You have called us, Flower Fairy?

Second Butterfly: How may we serve you, madam?

Flower Fairy: It is time for Princess Iris to return to her kingdom. Please carry her safely to her home.

Third Butterfly: We will guard her with our lives!

Fourth Butterfly: And we will fly like the wind!

Princess gets in the wagon and they exit.

All: Goodbye, we will miss you! Don’t forget to write!

Fern Elf: And now it is your turn, Prince William.

Flower Fairy:Horse chariot, come please!

2 to 4 horses enter with wagon/chariot and stop. Prince William enters the wagon.

First Horse: You have called us, Flower Fairy?

Second Horse: How may we serve you, Madam?

Flower Fairy: It is time for Prince William to return to his kingdom. Please carry him safely to his home.

Third Horse: We will guard him with our lives!

Fourth Horse: And we will run like the wind!

All: Goodbye, we will miss you! Goodbye!

Flower Fairy: So my children, the first two leave us, and your turn will be very soon. Enjoy my kingdom while you may! Go, have fun!

The princes and princesses run off laughing and excited to play.

Fern Elf: You have given them a powerful gift. I hope they use it wisely.

Flower Fairy: So do I, my friend. So do I.

GO TO DARK.
