Scene 3

Setting: same

Narrator: A week goes by. Lucentio has tutored Bianca every day.

Her math skills have not improved, but their feelings for each other have increased considerably.

CURTAIN OPENS: Lucentio and Bianca are sitting on the bench, as before.

Lucentio: I must confess, Bianca. I have fallen in love with you.

Bianca: And I have fallen with love with you, Lucentio, but we have one little problem.

Lucentio: I want to marry you, dear Bianca. How can there be a problem?

Bianca: It is my older sister, Kate. Father says I cannot marry until Kate marries.

Lucentio: That does not matter. I would wait for you until the end of time!

Bianca: Well, you may have to…

There is a knock at the door. Kate enters stage right, crosses the stage and opens the door on stage left.

Kate: What do you want?

First Suitor: Kate, you are so lovely! Will you marry me?

Kate: Yeh, right! Are you crazy? Goodbye!

Kate slams the door and leaves, stage left. Then there is a knock on the stage right door. Kate reenters stage left, crosses the stage, and answers the stage right door.

Kate: Who are you?

Second suitor: My darling Kate, I want…I want…

Kate: Spit it out!

Second Suitor: I want to marry you! Please take this gift.

Kate takes the jewelry he offers her and looks it over. Then she throws it back at him.

Kate: Nice bling-bling. But you can’t buy me! Get out of here!

Kate slams the door and leaves stage right.

Lucentio: I think I am beginning to understand the problem.
